2008-05-23 14:36  MOFCOM

From May 21 to 23, 2008, the World Trade Organization (WTO) shall hold the second review on China’s trade policy in WTO’s Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The meeting will examine China's overall economic and trade policies development and the impact on the multilateral trading system over the past two years. On May 19, Assistant Minister Qiu Hong led Chinese delegation to participate the review in Geneva. The Chinese delegation shall discuss with other WTO members about China’s economic and trade development and economic and trade policy changes over the past two years and answer the questions raised by WTO members.

Until May 15, WTO members proposed more than 880 questions to China, involving all aspects of China's economic and trade development and economic and trade policies. The Chinese government immediately organized relevant departments to reply. Before the meeting, the Chinese side will submit written replies of two-thirds of the questions and the rest shall be submitted in writing within the stipulated time, i.e. one month after the meeting.

The first WTO Trade Policy Review on China was held in April 2006. According to the WTO trade policy review rules, WTO members whose export amount occupies the first four need to accept a comprehensive review every two years.
